BMW Unveils the New-Gen X1 in India at JoyTown Festival
BMW has officially introduced the latest generation of its premium compact SUV, the BMW X1, at the JoyTown festival held in Bengaluru. The 2023 BMW X1 is now available in India with both petrol and diesel engine options. Notably, each powertrain comes in a single trim—the xLine for the petrol model and the sportier M Sport for the diesel version. Pricing starts at Rs. 45.90 lakh (ex-showroom) for the petrol variant and goes up to Rs. 50.90 lakh (ex-showroom) for the diesel. Interested buyers can reserve their vehicle with a booking amount of Rs. 50,000. Deliveries for the diesel model are scheduled to begin in March 2023, followed by the petrol variant in June 2023.
The latest X1 is larger than ever, having grown across all dimensions. It is now 53 mm longer, 24 mm wider, and 44 mm taller, with the wheelbase extended by 22 mm. From a design standpoint, it carries forward an evolutionary theme with a sharper, more mature and aggressive look. The M Sport version further enhances the styling with dynamic front and rear bumpers.
Inside, the new BMW X1 adopts a more luxurious and modern cabin layout, drawing inspiration from BMW’s latest design language. It features a curved display setup, integrating a 10.7-inch infotainment screen with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, offering a seamless, all-digital cockpit. The system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and is powered by a premium 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. Additional highlights include connected car technology, ADAS features, adaptive LED headlights, a powered tailgate, and park assist. The M Sport model also offers front seats with massage function. The larger exterior also translates to more interior space, including a 476-litre boot capacity.
Powering the xLine petrol variant is a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine, delivering 134 bhp and 230 Nm of torque, capable of 0-100 kmph in 9.2 seconds. The M Sport diesel version features a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder motor producing 148 bhp and 360 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0-100 kmph in 8.9 seconds. Both engines are mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, though neither offers an all-wheel-drive configuration.
