New-Generation BMW 3 Series Launched in India
BMW has introduced the all-new, seventh-generation 3 Series in the Indian market. Built on a completely new platform, the latest iteration brings with it enhanced performance, improved drivability, and updated design elements. The new 3 Series is available in three trims—Sport, Luxury Line, and M Sport—with two engine options: the petrol-powered BMW 330i and the diesel-powered BMW 320d. While the base and mid-level variants come equipped with the diesel engine, the range-topping M Sport variant is offered exclusively with the petrol powertrain.
Underpinning the new 3 Series is BMW’s CLAR platform, which it shares with the larger 5 Series and the flagship 7 Series. In terms of styling, the car draws design cues from the BMW 8 Series, featuring bold kidney grilles and sleek LED headlamps with signature L-shaped daytime running lights. Laser headlamps are offered as an option. The redesigned front bumper varies across variants—lower variants sport sculpted panels, while the M Sport version boasts aggressive air intakes and integrated horizontal LED fog lamps.
A standout feature includes self-leveling wheel hub caps, similar to those seen on Rolls-Royce models. At the rear, the redesigned wraparound LED taillights—reminiscent of the 5 Series—emphasize the sedan’s wide stance. Wheel sizes differ based on variant: the 320d gets 17-inch alloy wheels, whereas the 330i rides on 18-inch alloys.
Dimensionally, the new 3 Series has grown over its predecessor. It now measures 4,709 mm in length (76 mm longer), 1,827 mm in width (16 mm wider), and 1,442 mm in height (1 mm taller). The wheelbase has also been extended by 41 mm, now standing at 2,851 mm, offering more interior space.
Inside, the cabin receives a complete overhaul with a focus on driver-centric ergonomics. The dashboard features horizontal lines with premium electroplated trim and seamlessly flows into the door panels. Key features include a fully digital instrument cluster, a head-up display (HUD), electrically adjustable memory seats, a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, and an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with built-in navigation and BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant.
Under the hood, the BMW 330i is powered by a 2.0-litre (1998 cc) four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 255 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque between 1,550 and 4,400 rpm. The BMW 320d, in contrast, is equipped with a 2.0-litre (1995 cc) four-cylinder diesel engine that delivers 188 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. Both powertrains are paired with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission. While global markets receive the xDrive all-wheel-drive option, the Indian-spec 3 Series will be available exclusively with rear-wheel drive.
