BMW X4

BMW India kicked off 2019 with the launch of the all-new BMW X4, which is being locally assembled at the BMW Group Plant in Chennai. The new X4 is available in both petrol and diesel variants, including two diesel options – the xDrive20d M Sport X and xDrive30d M Sport X – and a single petrol variant – the xDrive30i M Sport X. All three variants are locally manufactured.

Sporting a distinctive coupe-inspired roofline, the 2018 BMW X4 draws design inspiration from the latest-generation X3, which serves as its foundation. While the X4 doesn’t have a direct competitor in the Indian market, it will go up against models like the Range Rover Evoque, Audi Q5, and Mercedes-Benz GLC.

The new X4 is underpinned by BMW’s CLAR (Cluster Architecture) platform, which first debuted with the 7 Series. This advanced platform contributes to a weight reduction of nearly 50 kg, even though the new model is larger than its predecessor – 81 mm longer, 37 mm wider, and with a 54 mm longer wheelbase (now 2864 mm). BMW also promises improved comfort, with 27 mm more rear legroom and an increased boot space of 525 litres, up by 25 litres.

Under the hood, the xDrive30d variant features a 3.0-litre inline-six diesel engine that churns out 261 bhp and 620 Nm of torque between 2,000 and 2,500 rpm, allowing the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6 seconds.

The xDrive20d is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, delivering 188 bhp and 400 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds.

A petrol variant, the xDrive30i, is also available and meets upcoming BS6 emission standards set to take effect in April 2020. This version comes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, producing 248 bhp and 350 Nm of torque between 1,450 and 4,800 rpm, and can achieve 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds.
