BMW X5 M

BMW India has introduced the new X5 M Competition, a high-performance SUV, at a starting price of ₹2.08 crore (ex-showroom). This new offering takes the standard X5 and infuses it with the brand’s signature M performance enhancements, including a powerful V8 engine and an aggressive design overhaul. As with all M models, the X5 M Competition is imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and is now available at BMW dealerships across the country.

Visually, the X5 M Competition boasts several sporty updates such as a redesigned front bumper with enlarged air intakes for improved cooling, and a more aggressive rear bumper housing quad exhaust pipes. Optional BMW Laserlight headlamps offer a beam range of up to 500 metres. The SUV also rides on staggered M light-alloy wheels—21 inches at the front and 22 inches at the rear.

Inside the cabin, the X5 M Competition receives several M-specific upgrades. These include a new M leather steering wheel with M buttons and red highlights, along with M multifunction sport seats featuring integrated headrests and adjustable thigh, lumbar, and backrest support. The dashboard is equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, BMW’s Drive Touch Controller, voice commands, and optional gesture controls. Also standard are BMW Live Cockpit Professional, BMW Virtual Assistant, a panoramic sunroof, and a Harman Kardon audio system, which can be further upgraded to a premium Bowers & Wilkins Diamond setup with a rear-seat entertainment package.

Powering the beast is a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine delivering 617 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 750 Nm of torque between 1,800–5,600 rpm. The SUV can rocket from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic gearbox. The transmission includes a three-stage Drivelogic system for sharper gear shifts, paddle shifters, and launch control. The setup also features an Active M Differential and BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel-drive system for enhanced handling dynamics.

Performance is further bolstered by an M-tuned chassis, adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers, active roll stabilization, and M Servotronic steering. The SUV is equipped with high-performance M compound brakes that include larger discs and calipers, along with selectable brake pedal modes—Comfort and Sport.

In terms of safety and driver assistance, the X5 M Competition is loaded with features. It comes with front, side, and curtain airbags; Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with M Dynamic Mode; Cornering Brake Control (CBC); Dynamic Brake Control; a Dry Braking function; and forward collision and pedestrian warnings with City Braking. Additional features include a head-up display, lane-keeping and lane control assistance, active side collision protection, lane change assistant, and cross-traffic alerts.
