Kawasaki KX 450
Description
The 2019 Kawasaki KX 450 is a purpose-built dirt bike, ideal for tackling trails, off-road tracks, and farmland terrain. True to the nature of a motocross machine, it features a minimalist design with a slim, narrow profile – thanks to its sleek seat and compact fuel tank.
Constructed on an evolved lightweight aluminium perimeter frame, the KX 450 benefits from improved rigidity and now uses the engine as a stressed member for added structural integrity. A redesigned swingarm further enhances stability and boosts rear-wheel traction.
The motorcycle comes with completely new bodywork crafted for better rider mobility. The flat, low-set fuel tank and long, smooth seat surface enable seamless front-to-rear movement, crucial for navigating tricky off-road sections. Streamlined tank shrouds and smooth engine covers also aid in gripping and prevent any hindrance during aggressive riding.
Powering the KX 450 is a 449cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine, offering an impressive power-to-weight ratio with the bike tipping the scales at just 110 kg (kerb weight). Riders can toggle between three ECU maps – Standard, Hard, and Soft – to match terrain and riding style. It also comes equipped with a launch control system, giving racers a traction advantage off the line on slippery starts.
For added convenience, there’s an electric start system, backed by a compact and lightweight lithium-ion battery – perfect for quick restarts in challenging environments.
A standout feature of the KX 450 is its adjustable ergonomics. Riders can choose from four handlebar positions and two footpeg positions for a custom riding setup. Braking duties are handled by a large 270 mm front disc and a 250 mm rear disc, delivering strong stopping power and enhanced control.
Priced at Rs. 8.59 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the Kawasaki KX 450 doesn’t have many direct competitors, but those seeking a similar 450cc factory-spec dirt bike may also consider the Suzuki RM-Z450.
