Kawasaki Ninja 650
Description
2023 Kawasaki Ninja 650 Launched in India
India Kawasaki Motors introduced the 2023 model of the Ninja 650 in November 2023. This updated middleweight sport-tourer carries a price tag of ₹7.12 lakh (ex-showroom) and is available in a single, striking Lime Green color variant. Borrowing from the 2023 Versys 650, the new Ninja 650 now features Kawasaki’s KTRC (Kawasaki Traction Control) system, enhancing both safety and performance.
While the Ninja 650 currently doesn’t face direct competition in India, the Honda CBR650R stands as its closest rival in the 650cc category.
Design & Visual Updates
The 2023 Ninja 650 now sports new ZX-10R-inspired graphics, giving it a sharper, more aggressive stance. It retains its distinctive twin LED headlamps, but visual changes are otherwise minimal.
One of the key upgrades is the 4.3-inch full-color TFT display, which brings a modern look to the cockpit and offers smartphone connectivity through Kawasaki’s Rideology mobile app.
Traction Control: Smarter Safety
The highlight of this update is the KTRC system, offering two selectable traction modes:
-
Mode 1: Minimal intervention, optimized for sporty riding and better cornering traction.
-
Mode 2: Higher intervention, ideal for slippery or wet road conditions by reducing engine power when wheel slip is detected.
Riders can also choose to completely switch off traction control when preferred.
Engine & Performance
Mechanically, the 2023 Ninja 650 remains unchanged, continuing with the proven 649cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine. It produces:
-
67.3 bhp at 8000 rpm
-
64 Nm of torque at 6700 rpm
The engine is paired with a smooth 6-speed transmission, offering a balanced performance for both city commuting and highway touring.
Suspension, Brakes & Tyres
Underneath, the Ninja 650 is equipped with:
-
41mm telescopic front forks
-
Horizontal back-link rear monoshock with preload adjustability
Braking is handled by: -
Twin 300mm petal discs at the front
-
220mm rear disc, supported by dual-channel ABS
It now rolls on high-performance Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tyres, enhancing grip and stability across varied riding conditions.
Verdict
The 2023 Kawasaki Ninja 650 continues to be one of the most versatile and well-rounded motorcycles in its segment. With updated styling, modern tech features, and enhanced safety through traction control, it’s a compelling choice for riders looking for a practical yet thrilling sport-tourer in the 650cc class.
