Kia has officially revealed the production version of the EV5, which is based on the EV5 Concept showcased earlier this year. While technical specifications remain undisclosed, the production model stays true to the concept’s boxy and upright aesthetic, while adopting a more practical and conventional interior. The production EV5 made its first public appearance at the 2023 Chengdu Motor Show.
In terms of design, the EV5 borrows styling cues from the larger EV9, yet maintains its own distinct identity. At the front, it features a unique lighting signature with a full-width LED light bar and L-shaped DRLs that flow down into the main headlamps. The side profile is clean and minimalist, highlighted by pronounced fender flares and a generous window line.
At the rear, the styling remains understated, with sleek L-shaped LED taillights and a roof-mounted spoiler. While the overall look closely mirrors the concept, practical changes include traditional wing mirrors in place of camera-based ones and production-spec wheels.
Inside, the cabin has been updated from the concept with a more functional layout. The dual-screen setup on the dashboard remains, but the seating configuration has been tweaked. Notably, the front passenger seat features an extended base that spans the centre tunnel, hinting at the possibility of a booster seat option. However, only the driver and front passenger seatbelts are visible in the released images.
Though Kia hasn’t officially revealed the EV5’s performance specs or dimensions, information from a filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology offers some insight. The EV5 will measure 4,615 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,715 mm in height, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase and a kerb weight of 1,870 kg.
For the Chinese market, the EV5 will be equipped with an LFP Blade battery pack, developed by a BYD subsidiary, underscoring Kia’s focus on localized components for specific markets.
