Mahindra XEV 7e
Description
New images of Mahindra’s upcoming electric SUV—seen as the all-electric counterpart to the XUV700—have surfaced online, offering a clearer look at the production-spec version of the XUV.e8 concept first revealed in 2022. Despite being showcased over two years ago, the design has remained largely faithful to the original prototype. Notably, Mahindra had unveiled a fully functional prototype of this electric SUV in August 2022.
While the official production name hasn’t been confirmed, recent trademark filings suggest it may be called the XEV 7e, as Mahindra applied for the name earlier this year and the application has passed the formalities check.
Exterior Design
Up front, the SUV adopts a familiar face seen on the XEV 9e, featuring a full-width LED lightbar and triangular-shaped headlights. The grille is sealed, typical of EVs, although the bumper design appears different from its coupe-SUV sibling.
From the side and rear, the XEV 7e retains much of the design language of the XUV700, as previewed by the XUV.e8 concept. Elements such as the body creases, window line, and taillights closely mirror those of its ICE sibling.
Interior and Features
Inside, the cabin layout mirrors that of both the original XUV.e8 prototype and the newer XEV 9e. It features a large widescreen dashboard that integrates three displays. However, one notable change is the removal of physical controls on the center console. Where the prototype included buttons for climate control and other functions, the production model seems to have gone fully digital.
Unlike the XEV 9e’s five-seater layout, the XEV 7e offers three rows of seating, confirming its role as a family-oriented SUV. The cabin also includes a panoramic glass roof with ambient perimeter lighting. Premium features like Level 2 ADAS, a Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos, and more are expected to be carried over from the XEV 9e.
Platform and Powertrain
Like its coupe sibling, the XEV 7e will be built on Mahindra’s INGLO EV platform. While rear-wheel drive is likely to be standard, the presence of a new ‘Snow’ drive mode and visual cues hint at the availability of all-wheel drive in higher variants. Detailed powertrain specs are expected closer to the official launch.
In summary, the XEV 7e aims to offer a practical, high-tech, three-row electric SUV alternative to the XUV700, blending familiar design with modern EV elements and premium features.
