Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara
Description
Maruti Suzuki’s First EV – e Vitara – Launch Delayed, but Still Coming This Year
The much-anticipated launch of Maruti Suzuki’s first all-electric SUV, the e Vitara, seems to be facing some delays. Earlier this year, the EV was showcased in its full production form at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, and even sent out to various Nexa dealerships across India, signaling that it was almost ready to hit the roads. But now, it looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer.
In a recent financial results call, R.C. Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki India, confirmed that while the e Vitara will launch in 2025, domestic sales may not begin until just before the end of September. He also mentioned that a major chunk of this year’s production—around 70,000 units—will be focused on exports.
The e Vitara originally made its global debut back in November 2024, and is based on the earlier EVX concept. While Maruti Suzuki had earlier said production would begin in May 2025 at their Gujarat plant, there’s now some uncertainty around whether those timelines are still on track. So far, the company hasn’t issued a formal response to queries about the delay.
🚗 Performance & Specs
Maruti Suzuki has already shared the technical details of the India-spec e Vitara. Here’s what we know:

It will come in two battery options – a 49 kWh and a 61 kWh lithium-ferro-phosphate (LFP) variant.
-
The 49 kWh version offers 142 bhp, while the 61 kWh variant ups that to 172 bhp. Both deliver a torque of 192.5 Nm.
-
In terms of range, the 49 kWh model can go up to 346 km, and the 61 kWh version stretches to 428 km (as per WLTP standards).
-
The base model does 0-100 km/h in 9.6 seconds, while the higher variant manages it in 8.7 seconds, with a top speed of 150 km/h.
⚡ What’s Next?
While the e Vitara is the flagship electric SUV, Maruti Suzuki is also gearing up to launch other EVs like the Wagon R Electric and the eVX in the near future.
So, while the wait for the e Vitara might be a bit longer than expected, it’s shaping up to be a strong contender in the EV space when it finally hits Indian roads later this year.
