Description
TVS Motor Company has introduced its first neo-retro roadster, the all-new TVS Ronin. Offered in three variants, the Ronin is priced between ₹1,49,000 and ₹1,68,750. It debuts on a completely new platform and is likely the first model to be launched on it. Powering the Ronin is a 225.9 cc single-cylinder engine housed in a new split dual-cradle frame. The engine delivers 20.1 bhp at 7,750 rpm and 19.93 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm, tuned to favor strong low- and mid-range performance over top-end speed. It claims a top speed of 120 kmph and comes paired with a five-speed gearbox. Designed for urban exploration and light off-roading, the Ronin blends characteristics of a crossover rather than a dedicated scrambler.
In terms of design, the Ronin features a retro-styled fuel tank and side panels reminiscent of 1980s roadsters. It sports a flat, single-piece seat, while the blacked-out engine components and alloy wheels reflect modern styling, typical of 21st-century motorcycles rather than classic retro machines.
Despite its vintage-inspired design, the Ronin is equipped with modern features. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with dual-purpose Remora block-pattern tyres. Suspension duties are handled by gold-finished Showa USD forks with big piston technology at the front and a gas-charged monoshock with a floating piston at the rear. The bike has disc brakes on both ends, with ABS as standard—dual-channel ABS on higher trims—featuring switchable modes for Rain and Urban conditions. It also comes with full-LED lighting, which TVS claims surpasses segment standards in brightness. The digital instrument cluster supports Bluetooth connectivity via TVS’ SmartXonnect system, offering various connected features.
With the Ronin, TVS is targeting a new segment of riders who need a versatile bike for daily use as well as occasional weekend touring. The bike has been ergonomically designed for long-distance comfort, and its short wheelbase enhances maneuverability in city traffic. The five-speed transmission is optimized to reduce frequent gear shifts, and the engine’s torque allows smooth acceleration even in higher gears at low speeds. Weighing in at 160 kg, the Ronin appears to be a capable all-rounder—and we’ll soon find out how it performs on the road.
